Following backlash over a retweet and comment John Cusack posted this week, the actor removed the offending tweet and apologized for sharing what he acknowledged was antisemitic content.

“A bot got me,” he later tweeted. “I thought I was endorsing a pro Palestinian justice retweet – of an earlier post – it came I think from a different source – Shouldn’t Have retweeted.”

He went on to explain the situation in further details, he tweeted that “it’s clear that even if it was Israel’s flag & even if you don’t have [an] antisemitc bone in your body, it is still an antisemitic cartoon.”

The controversial image showed a hand with the Star of David holding people captive along with a caption: “To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.”
