While President Donald Trump earned some international opprobrium for his effusive rhetoric toward the North Korean dictator, Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson attempted to explain the controversial meeting with Kim Jong Un.

In an interview on the cable news network, Carlson began by denouncing North Korea as a “monstrous regime” and denying that Trump is defending atrocities attributed to its tyrannical leader.

“On the other hand, you’ve got to be honest about what it means to lead a country,” the host continued. “It means killing people. Not on the scale the North Koreans do, but a lot of countries commit atrocities, including a number that we are closely allied with.”

Carlson was among those present for the historic meeting between Trump and Kim.
