Following reports that nearly 500,000 people expressed interest in a Facebook event to storm the heavily guarded Area 51 site in Nevada, the U.S. Air Force made it clear the military will not be treating any such efforts as a joke.

In a statement on Friday, Air Force spokesperson Laura McAndrews described the site as “an open training range” for the branch, adding that military officials “would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces.”

Pushed for details, she added: “The U.S. Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets.”
