Some New York City eateries are expressing their gratitude for the influx of business U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sent their way.
The appreciative restaurateurs reacted to the Democratic lawmaker’s recommendations for the visiting vice chairwoman of the Arizona Democratic Party. Ocasio-Cortez told Brianna Westbrook she should visit four Bronx restaurants in particular.
Her Twitter love reportedly translated to increased business across the board.
Aurora Cerrato, a chef at MangiPasta, said customers came in and told her that they were there on Ocasio-Cortez’s recommendation.
“They were like, ‘You know why I’m here?’ I’m like, ‘No,'” she said. “Even take out, they’re like, ‘I want to try your food because Ocasio-Cortez mentioned you, said you have quality food,'” she added.
The owner of another restaurant on her list spoke positively of the freshman lawmaker.
Mohmmad Khokon owns Neerob and described Ocasio-Cortez as “fighting for us.”
While the owner of Louie & Ernie’s might not be as big a fan of her politics, he appreciates her effort to represent her constituents.
“I’m glad that she’s doing a lot of stuff for the community,” John Tiso said.
While he said he doesn’t “agree on all her stances,” Tiso thinks “she’s doing the right thing” so far in her term.
Ocasio-Cortez also endorsed a fourth local spot, Taqueria Tlaxcalli.
