Utah Supreme Court judge Michael Kwan has been handed a six-month suspension for politically charged comments he made in social media posts and in court.

One remark cited in the decision allegedly came in response to a defendant’s suggestion that he pay his fines with an anticipated tax refund.

“You do realize we have a new president and you think we are getting any money back?” he said.

Kwan later reportedly wrote the quip off as a poor attempt at a joke, acknowledging it was a violation of judicial regulations.

He argued that multiple online statements critical of Donald Trump should be protected free speech, however.

In apparent response to Trump’s brag in a bombshell audio clip that he could grab women “by the pussy,” Kwan reportedly posted that he planned to “go to the shelter to adopt a cat before the President-Elect grabs them all.”

He also reportedly welcomed the new administration as “the beginning of the fascist takeover.”
