Following a pointed exchange With Joe Biden during Thursday’s Democratic presidential, Kamala Harris received some criticism from the first black female to be elected to the U.S. Senate.

Harris, a black senator from California, shared an experience from her own childhood in an effort to denounce Biden’s opposition to busing in the years after school desegregation.

Former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, however, did not feel her comments hit the mark.

“We can be proud of her nonetheless, but her ambition got it wrong about Joe,” she said. “He is about the best there is; for her to take that tack is sad.”

Biden has enjoyed high levels of support within the black community, but Harris has surged in polls since her debate performance.
