Authorities in Pennsylvania say a man attempted to portray his offer to sell his young daughter as a joke.

Deniz Ak, 59, is accused, of making the proposal to a man sitting in a flower bed along East High Street in Middletown earlier this week.

Court documents indicate the suspect was carrying his baby when he struck up a conversation with the other man.

“Do you want to buy her?” Ak allegedly asked. “Only $50.”

When the other man threatened to call the police, Ak reportedly left the scene. He was found a short time later on the same street, standing outside of his home and still holding the young girl.

Police say he was dressed in pajama pants and acknowledged he made the offer to sell the child.

“I joke,” he reportedly claimed.

He was nevertheless arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor charges including criminal attempt of dealing in infant children and endangering the welfare of children.

According to reports, Ak is also expected to be charged with indirect criminal contempt for allegedly violating a protection from abuse order granted on behalf of his daughter and the child’s mother.
