On the heels of a World Cup win, U.S. women’s national soccer team star Megan Rapinoe used her platform to call out the president for his recent behavior.

“I think we’re one step away from just saying a racial slur on national television, from the president of the United States,” she said in a recent interview.

Rapinoe expressed specific criticism for the recent campaign rally chant of “send her back” in reference to U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., an American citizen who arrived in the U.S. as a child refugee.

She called the rhetoric “sad and disgusting and despicable.”

The athlete, who previously got Trump’s attention by vowing not to visit the White House if her team had been invited, continued her excoriation of the current administration.

“At every step it’s shocking and I hope people don’t stop being shocked by it all, because it’s truly the worst of the worst,” she said.
