Following a series of offensive tweets many critics deemed racist, the husband of senior White House counselor Kellyanne Conway was among the prominent conservatives to call on the Republican Party to denounce Donald Trump’s comments.
Asked about George Conway’s assessment of the tweets as evidence of Trump’s “[n]aiveté, resentment and outright racism, roiled in a toxic mix,” his wife expressed a different opinion.
“No, I totally disagree,” she said. “But I work with this president. I know him. I know his heart. I know his actions. I know how much he has helped people of color. And I go by what people do, not what other people say about them.”
Kellyanne Conway went on to scold reporters for mentioning her husband’s public statement.
“And also, respectfully, I’m not going to run around pointing out everybody’s disagreements with the people in their lives,” she said. “I sure could.”
