After Donald Trump’s spontaneous meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, he became the first sitting U.S. president to step foot in the country.

Despite its historic nature, plenty of Americans found the photo op and Trump’s effusive language toward the tyrant were unacceptable. Among his critics was 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Tim Ryan.

The Ohio congressman reacted to the news during an interview on Sunday.

“They talk about historic moments,” Ryan said, comparing it to an inauspicious moment in 20th century world history. “This is historic. Him going to North Korea is like [British Prime Minister Neville] Chamberlain meeting with Adolf Hitler.”

Several others in the crowded field hoping to take on the incumbent were similarly unimpressed by Trump’s meeting with Kim.

“I mean, this guy was lobbing missiles into the Sea of Japan just a few weeks ago and the president is going to talk to him?” Ryan added. “I mean, are you kidding me?”
