The mayor of London, England, says he intends to remain above “childish tweets and name-calling” in his response to President Donald Trump’s latest Twitter jab.
Trump called Sadiq Khan a “stone cold loser,” among other insults, in a tweet shortly before landing in the U.K. for a state visit. The tweet escalated an ongoing war of words between the two leaders ahead of the international trip.
“It’s for him to decide how he behaves,” Khan said. “It’s not for me to respond in a like manner.”
I've been asked why I've been critical of rolling out the red carpet for President Trump's State Visit given the USA is a close ally.
My answer is simple: The USA and UK have been best mates for decades. When your best mate does something wrong, you have to call them out on it. pic.twitter.com/3ccPC5gIbB

Calling such insults “the sort of behavior [he] would expect from an 11-year-old,” the mayor said it was “beneath” him to “do childish tweets and name-calling.”
