After President Donald Trump posted a series of tweets widely denounced as racist, numerous key Republicans declined to address the growing controversy.

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., earned a particularly harsh rebuke for his silence from the daughter of one his closest friends.

Meghan McCain, a co-host on ABC’s “The View,” said Graham had been “like an uncle” to her, given his relationship with her father, the late Sen. John McCain.

“Whatever is happening to Lindsey, this is not the person I used to know,” she said.

McCain added that she previously believed the South Carolina lawmaker was “closest to [her] political ideology.”

Graham shared some comments seen as defending Trump’s message, but further advised him to “aim higher” and address political foes “on their policies.”
