Revisiting a well from which he has previously drawn in comments on immigration, President Donald Trump responded to a call for armed guards on the nation’s southern border.

He was addressing a crowd of supporters in Florida this week when he broached the subject.

“And don’t forget, we don’t let them and we can’t let then use weapons,” Trump said in a reference to border security. “We can’t. Other countries do. We can’t. I would never do that. But how do you stop these people? You can’t.”

One attendee had an idea.

Shoot them!” a supporter reportedly shouted.

While others in the audience applauded the suggestion, Trump reportedly shook his head before responding.

“That’s only in the Panhandle you can get away with that statement,” he said. “Only in the Panhandle.”
