In recent statements regarding the continuing back and forth between a Democratic-led House and the Trump White House, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., weighed in on the top Democrat’s political position.
“Her job is very much at risk,” he said of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.
Graham went on to claim that she is “riding a bucking, wild bronco called the Democratic caucus” and could play to Donald Trump’s re-election advantage. He suggested Pelosi is caught between the “70 percent of the Democratic base” calling for Trump’s impeachment and his belief that “impeachment would be political suicide because there’s no reason to impeach the president.”
While “trying to keep the party intact,” Graham said Pelosi could pay the price with political power.
“If she goes down the impeachment road, Republicans take back the House, we keep the Senate, President Trump gets re-elected,” Graham theorized.
Pelosi has so far eschewed calls for impeachment from within her own party. A war of words between her and the president has heated up in recent days, however.
Her chief of staff dismissed Graham’s warnings.
“Per usual, the Senator has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about,” Drew Hammill replied.
