Controversy surrounding President Donald Trump’s trip to the United Kingdom began days before he touched down on Monday.
In addition to widespread protests over his visit, the president earned criticism over remarks he reportedly made about Meghan Markle, the U.S.-born Duchess of Sussex.
Trump continued the controversy even as he headed toward the U.K. this week.
After calling the trip “very interesting” and “very important” before leaving the U.S., he shared a harsh rebuke of London’s mayor mid-flight.
In a tweet, he called Sadiq Khan a “stone cold loser” who was “foolishly ‘nasty’ to the visiting President of the United States.”
Khan had previously described the U.S. president as “one of the most egregious examples of a growing global threat.”
