After repeatedly disparaging a group of four freshman Democratic congresswomen in what were widely denounced as racist attacks, President Donald Trump went on to bring attention to his abbreviation of one member’s name.
“They said, ‘That’s not her name, sir,'” Trump told a campaign rally crowd in North Carolina in reference to complaints that he uses “Cortez” instead of U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez‘s actual surname.
“I said, ‘No, no, I don’t have time to go with three different names,'” he claimed. “We’ll call her Cortez. Takes too much time.”
