President Donald Trump is praising a possible 2020 presidential rival for what one Fox News Channel host described as a “sign of great progress” to many Americans.
Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind., is the only openly gay Democratic presidential candidate.
Like most married politicians, he frequently appears in public with his husband, Chasten. Suggesting “some people will have a problem” with the relationship on display, Trump made it clear he was not among them.
“I think it’s absolutely fine,” he said. “I do.”
He went on to agree with interviewer Steve Hilton’s assessment.
“Yes, I think it’s great,” Trump said.
As Scope News previously reported, Trump has taken aim at Buttigieg in the past — notably based on his appearance, perceived electoral chances, and difficult-to-pronounced surname.
