President Donald Trump received mixed reviews following reports that he planned to route undocumented immigrants to so-called sanctuary cities — particularly in the districts of his political adversaries.

He has since confirmed that was his intent. In comments during his rally in Wisconsin on Saturday, he said the plan is already in progress.

“Now we’re sending many of them to sanctuary cities,” he told a receptive crowd. “Thank you very much. They’re not too happy about it. I’m proud to tell you that was actually my sick idea.”

Trump then went on to mock the predominantly Democratic leaders who support limited local enforcement of federal immigration laws.

“What did they say?” he asked. “‘We want them.’ I said, ‘We’ll give them to you.'”

The pronouncement matched in tone a tweet he posted earlier this month.

“The USA has the absolute legal right to apprehend illegal immigrants transferred to Sanctuary Cities,” he tweeted. “We hereby demand that they be taken care of at the highest level, especially by the State of California, which is well known or [sic] its poor management & high taxes!”
