Obama Supporters Chanted Too: Have They Forgotten?

Many of Obama's Rallies Couldn't be Held Indoors; The crowd sizes were simply too large

Let’s be fair.  Plenty of crowds and mobs get over worked.  Obama’s did too.

His supporters, however, didn’t yell things like, “Send her back”, or “CNN Sucks”, or “Build that Wall”, or “Lock her Up”, or to Mueller and the investigators “Lock Them Up”.

Obama’s crowds got riled up and chanted back too. The crowd sizes were larger, so it was a lot louder and the people could feel the excitement, the joy. There were 150,000 in Denver, 200,00 in Germany, and the inauguration beat many records, but technically Lyndon Johnson’s 2nd inauguration beat Obama’s.

Speaking of inaugural numbers, the Obamas attended ten balls. Trump seemed to only have energy for three.

Barack broke some rules at his inauguration.  There was a Kid’s Inaugural “We are the Future” ball, and the “Affordable Ball”, so it wasn’t just the over-wealthy celebrating. Trump’s inauguration didn’t have those.

While Trump’s inauguration committee paid out “roughly twice as much or more than was raised” for former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush’s first and second inaugurations. Interesting. So interesting, Trump’s inauguration is still under investigation. https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/20/politics/trump-inaugural-prosecutors-new-york/index.html

We do need to give the devil its due: Trump set an inaugural crowd record. Nearly three times as many participants protested than attended Trump’s inauguration.

“Supported by nearly 200 activist groups and organizations, and drawing an estimated three times as many participants as the inauguration, the Women’s March demonstrated on racial and gender equality, affordable healthcare, abortion rights and voting rights for protests at an inauguration, particularly post graduation at the Women’s March, drawing a record number of crowds across the globe.”   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inauguration_of_Donald_Trump

To flex his muscle, his power as president, one of the first things Barack did was make Martin Luther King Day a ‘Day of Service’ aka volunteering. Plus he took time out from working for the people, not to golf, but to volunteer!

I’ve never seen Trump volunteer, have you?

What about the chanting?

Obama supporters didn’t yell things like, “Send her back”, or “CNN Sucks”, or “Build that Wall”, or “Lock her Up”, or to Mueller and the investigators “Lock Them Up”.

Barack’s supporters got fired up. In fact the call and response chant at campaign rallies was, “Fired up?” and the crowd would yell back, “Ready to go.”

Oh those crowd sizes; record breaking. Obama would be speaking and then say, “Yes, we can,” and the crowd would call back “Yes, we can.”

There was a vicious chant, once, taken up at ball game in Philadelphia. “U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!” was taken up by both team fans. It was May 2nd, 2011.

The news came out, among the crowd of 45,713 a sellout crowd, U.S. special forces killing accused Sept. 11 mastermind Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, the chants grew louder and more widespread, and people could be spotted all over the ballpark checking their phones.

“U-S-A!, U-S-A! , U-S-A!”

“I don’t like to give Philadelphia fans too much credit, but they got this one right,” Mets third baseman David Wright said. “I guess it’s a proud moment to stand out there and you’ve got 45-50,000 chanting. That was pretty special.”

Nasty, right?

After Obama left office there have been ongoing chants, like “Four More Years!” and “MVP!” , whenever and wherever he is.

Then there was some bad chanting in the crowd, but Obama shut them down. A stadium-sized crowd in North Carolina in 2016, and Obama was stumping for Hillary. A Trump supporter and heckler started shouting during the speech, holding up a Trump sign

The crowd started loudly booing, but Obama said to them, “Hold up! Hold up!” to quiet them. He comes to the Trump supporter’s the heckler’s defense saying, the man’s just trying to support his chosen candidate.

He didn’t offer to pay the legal bills if the mob decided the “rough the guy up”.  He didn’t say he’d like to “Punch him right in the mouth”.

He said, “Now listen up…First of all, we live in a country that respects free speech. Second of all, it looks like [the Trump supporter/heckler] maybe he might have served in our military, and we’ve got to respect that. Third of all, he was elderly and we’ve got to respect our elders. And fourth of all, don’t boo—vote!”

When chants went up at a January 11th 2016 speech,”Four more years,” Obama smiled and said, “I can’t do that.”

When the crowd started booing when he mentioned the change of administrations, Obama responded, “No, no, no, no, no.” One of the nation’s great strengths, he said, “is the peaceful transfer of power from one president to the next.”

“That potential will be realized only if our democracy works. Only if our politics reflects the decency of our people. Only if all of us, regardless of our party affiliation or particular interest, help restore the sense of common purpose that we so badly need right now.”

So yeah, some serious chanting going on.
