High scoring match

The First ODI was abandoned, but the visitors gave a tough fight in the Second ODI which they lost by a whisker.

The home side had put a mammoth total of 373 runs which seemed enough in the beginning. However, the gutsy Pakistanis managed to reach 361 but lost the game by 12 runs. Batting was always Pakistan team’s Achilles heel but the performance by the visitors in the Second ODI was flawless and almost clinched the victory.

The ODI series will give the visitors to get acquainted with the English conditions before the World Cup scheduled to start on May 30, 2019. However, there are plenty of things to worry about team management. Though the visitors have lost nine matches of the 12 they have played in the last few months, the gutsy performance in the 2 ODI has given the team a much-needed morale booster, and if they can maintain this tempo, they could be hot favorites for the World Cup.

The team has in the past been criticized for not scoring quick enough. However, the team seems to have overcome this hiccup, and an example is a blistering inning by Fakhar Zaman of 138. Asif Ali and Sarfraz Ahmed also scored at one run per ball rate. Former captain Rameez Raja was all praise for hard-hitting Asif, who was earlier dropped but bounced back and proved his detractors wrong.

One significant setback for the visitors is the loss of Mohammad Amir who is down with Chicken Pox. His playing the World Cup is also under doubt. Bristol, where the match is to be played, boasts a small ground. With hard-hitting batsmen in both the teams, the audience could expect a lot of fireworks and a big total.
