2019 Cricket World Cup – 10 teams, and 48 matches for the trophy


England will host the 2019 Cricket World Cup for men. This cricket extravaganza will begin with the match of England vs South Africa on 30 May. This is the fifth time England is hosting the World Cup. There are 10 teams competing. They are alphabetically Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa and West Indies. First semi-final is on July 9 at Old Trafford, Manchester. Second semi-final will be on July 11 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The date of the final is July 14 at Lords, London. Australia won the trophy in 2015. As reigning champions, they would like to hold on to the title. That may be a tough task because a new fleet of players has emerged. They have changed the concept of the game. Obviously, they will put up a fight to snatch the title.

The Indian team landed in London

The squad consists of 15 players. They hit the nets at the Oval Cricket Ground soon after landing in London. Their first match will be against South Africa on June 5. However, they will play two practice matches to tune up their frequencies. These will be against New Zealand on May 25 and against Bangladesh on May 28. India won the world cup trophy twice in 1983 and in 2011. It hopes to make it a third this season.

Members in the team

It is an experienced team and some have played stellar roles in the Indian Premier League. Virat Kohli is the captain and M S Dhoni, the wicket keeper. The others are Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Vijay Shankar, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, KL Rahul, and Dinesh Karthik. Many of them have played in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab etcetera.
