“Game of Thrones” star Kit Harington (“Jon Snow”) says critics of the hit HBO series who hated the finale can “go f–k themselves” because he and the cast worked hard to deliver what they thought was a fitting end.
“Game of Thrones” aired its finale on May 19, capping off an epic eight seasons of the popular TV drama.
However, GoT has been slammed for its underwhelming and disappointing finale, which many fans felt did not do justice to the sweeping, majestic TV series.
Kit Harington: Cast and crew stand by the finale
But Kit defends the show’s cast, writers, and crew, saying they did their best and stand behind their work.
“Whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their judgement on it, in my head they can go f–k themselves,” Harington told Esquire. “Because I know how much work was put into this.”
Realizing how harsh and angry he sounded, Kit added, “I don’t mean to sound mean about critics.”
Harington: ‘Game of Thrones’ cast is like a family
Harington says he’s merely defensive because the Game of Thrones cast and crew became more than co-workers — he says they’re like a family, which is why he bristles at negative comments about the show’s writers.
“Part of what made [‘Game of Thrones’] successful was the fact that we got on like a family,” he says. “Everyone who came in was welcomed into the family.”
Fans launch petition demanding do-over of finale
Before the Season 8 finale aired, there was heavy backlash from angry fans, who demanded a do-over of the last season. Many fans felt the show went off-the-rails and totally changed what made GoT so compelling in the first place.
In fact, fans launched a Change.org petition on May 17, demanding a remake of the final season.
The petition has so far garnered more than 1.3 million signatures. It reads:
“David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.
This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”
So far, HBO has not responded to the petition.
