BH90210: S01.E01. “The Reunion”

It’s finally here. BH90210, the much-anticipated return of the original Beverley Hills 90210 cast hit our television screens in these United States Wed., 7 August 2019 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.

The Beverley Hills 90210 reunion series takes the reboot phenomenon and turns it completely on its head. How does one explain BHJ90210? It’s vastly different from the standard reboot. Consequently, BH90210 is refreshingly bright.

While Gabrielle Carteris, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Jason Priestley, Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering and Christine Elise are seen playing Andrea Zuckerman, Brenda Walsh, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Brandon Walsh, Donna Martin, Ian Ziering and Christine Elise, respectively, each of the cast members also play a fictionalised versions of themselves.

Picture an alternate universe where Beverley Hills 90210 was exactly how we remember it. The only difference between the universe we live in and the one HB90210 exists in is the cast members radically different private lives. Their career paths consequently differ from what we know.

Everyone’s personal lives are not what they should be. Since Beverley Hills 90210 went off the air, their lives fell apart: Tori and her husband (Ivan Sergei) become increasingly financially embarrassed after their reality television series is cancelled, Jennie is being divorced by her third husband, Jason’s wife (Vanessa Lachey) seems less interested in their marriage as she is in being his publicist, Brian lives in the shadow of his wife’s fame as an R&B singer (La La Anthony) and Ian’s wife auditions for The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills.

Let’s do a Reboot!

The episode closes with Tori’s children watching an episode of the original Beverley Hills 90210 when Jennie visits the Spelling residence. Tori was hoping that Jennie might help her think of some new reality television show ideas, but as a friend, Jennie tells her that she doesn’t want her spending time on that crap anymore.

As Tori wonders what she’s going to do, as if hit by a bolt of lightning, she has an idea which could reinvigorate her career. All Tori has to do is get the rest of the cast on board with her plan. How difficult could that be?
