In 2020, with the release of Ghostbusters 2020, Wolfhard will be stepping into the Ghostbusters franchise for real as he has been cast in a yet-to-be referenced role. Even though the character which Wolfhard will be playing is not yet known, there is speculation that the Stranger Things actor will be playing Dr Egon Spengler’s son.
Harold Ramis, the actor that played Egon in the first two films, died in 2014. Aged 69, the Chicago born actor died as a result of complications from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis.
If Wolfhard were playing Egon’s son, it would be a fitting nod to Harold’s memory.
Ghostbusters 2020, a direct sequel to the 1984 and 1989 films Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II, respectively, is scheduled to hit movie theater screens in these United States 10 July 2020. This production is going to ignore the existence of the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot.
Sitting in the director’s chair for this third instalment of the franchise is Jason Reitman. Ivan Reitman, Jason’s father, was the director on the first two instalments of the franchise. With Ivan working as an executive producer on the coming film, he hasn’t completely stepped away from the franchise.
Fans of the original two films will be gratified to learn cast members from the first two films, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Dan Aykroyd will be reprising their respective roles as Dana Barrett, Janine Melnitz and Dr Raymond Stantz.
While it has not yet been confirmed Bill Murray will be reprising his roles as Peter Venkman, rumours have it the production will see him back in the Ghostbuster’s uniform for this latest instalment.
Stay tuned for further information as it arrives.
