SPOILER ALERT: If you have yet to watch the Private Eyes third season finale, stop reading now. There are spoilers ahead.
Private investigators Angie Everett (Cindy Sampson) and Matt Shade (Jason Priestley) attend Norm Glinski’s (William Shatner) funeral. It’s a sombre affair with very few attendees. As the private investigators make their way out of the cemetery, they discover Norm faked his own death so that he could convince the person that was shooting at him he was dead. Now that everyone believes he’s dead, Norm hires Angie and Matt to investigate the shooting and find out who would want him dead. That would probably limit the search parameters to anyone that’s ever met him, perhaps!
Norm Gets Comfortable…
Norm invites himself to stay at Everett & Shade Investigations. With Norm drinking Matt’s whisky and streaming “documentaries,” the veteran private investigator took no time getting comfortable at the agency.
At the Police Station…
Because Norm doesn’t have a good relationship with the cops, Angie takes the whisky flask to the police station. She needs ballistics ran on the bullet which is lodged in the flask. Will Detective Kurtis ‘Maz’ Mazhari (Ennis Esmer) assist with the case? While Maz isn’t there, Trainee Detective Danica Powers (Ruth Goodwin) is in the office.
Danica is excited that she’s getting her promotion from being a trainee detective to a fully-fledged detective. Subsequently, considering how hard she has worked on becoming a detective, she doesn’t want anything to mess the promotion up for her. When Angie and Matt arrive at the police station, the promotion isn’t completely finalised. Angie manipulates Danica into doing a “teenie weenie favour” for her. Does Danica know she’s being played?
After investigating the list of people Norm thought would want him dead, Angie and Matt are at a dead end. How big is the suspect pool?
“Who knew it would be so hard to find someone that wants to kill you?” Angie rhetorically asks Norm.
Zoe Chow (Samantha Wan), at Norm’s place, finds it has been trashed. Whoever wants Norm dead must think he has something of significant value. What could that something be?
Norm doesn’t believe his ex-wife, Shirl Glinski (Sheila McCarthy), could have anything to do with the attempted shooting. Because she’s the only beneficiary on Norm’s life insurance policy, Matt thinks of the ex-wife his number one suspect. But as the case progresses, Angie and Matt find that there are at least two other suspects which would want to kill Norm.
When Danica calls Angie about her “father’s bullet,” the detective has bad news. It wasn’t from father’s gun. Shocker!
The bullet came from a gun belonging to Ralph Duncan (Colin Mochrie). Did Ralph shoot Norm or was it someone with access to the gun?
Who Shot Norm?
Ralph points Angie and Matt in a competitor’s direction but the most likely suspect is not always the guilty party. With the gun having been taken from Ralph’s safe, it must have been someone close to home.
Could it have been Deena Duncan (Debra McGrath)? She has both motive and opportunity.
Deena is doesn’t like playing second fiddle to her husband after years of marriage. She subsequently wants to break free from his shadow.
The Tex Subplot…
Angie is still seeing Texas Ethan Clarkson (Brett Donahue). The tone of this relationship is growing more serious. With Tex inviting Angie to Seattle, it looks like Tex wants the relationship to go in a serious direction. Is that what Angie wants?
Tex bought Angie an open-ended ticket to travel across to Seattle. Even though Tex indicates there is no pressure to use the ticket, from the way he expresses his thoughts, it suggests he really wants Angie in Seattle with him.
Jules Shade Subplot…
Matt is having difficulty accepting his daughter, Jules Shade (Jordyn Negri), is growing up. While she is only 16 years old, Jules has a mind of her own. Consequently, when Matt learned Becca D’Orsay (Nicole de Boer) took their daughter to the doctor to get birth control, he wasn’t happy.
Did you Catch that Ending?
Angie decided to share the bottle of wine Cassie Lewis (Emily Rose) gave her with Matt. If you recall, in the Eleanore Lindo directed episode ‘The Grape Deception,’ the Winstone 45 was stolen from the vineyard Cassie worked at.
Seconds after Matt was seen uncorking the wine, Sabrina Campbell (Katie Boland) shows up at the agency looking for him. When she shows Matt a picture of her mother, he recognises her as someone he dated from back in the day. That was decades ago.
“I’m your daughter,” Sabrina tells Matt.
