The third episode of Stranger Things opens with Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) talking Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) into using her ‘spy’ powers on Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) and his friends. Eleven uses her spying abilities to locate Heather (Francesca Reale). Heather is missing. Is she in the Upside-Down? Because they are concerned about Heather, having found that the female lifeguard has missed work, Max and Eleven attempt to track down Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery). When Eleven uses her powers to locate Heather, the conscious of the lifeguard is dragged away into the Upside-Down.

Later, Eleven and Max visit Heather’s home. On their arrival, they find Billy, Heather and her parents dining together quite happily like everything is perfectly normal. Did you see Bill’s facial expression when Eleven and Max leave the house? Contemptuous is not a big enough word. Because the memory flashes do not belong to the real Billy, this could be the Billy-doppelganger from the Upside-Down.

Across town, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) senses something strange. Will says, “He’s back.” Billy and Heather knock her parents out.

Nancy Investigates…

Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) is not willing to give up on her story. She knows there is something worth investigating. Even though the misogynistic men at the newspaper make fun of her, Nancy persists with the story. She convinces Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) to return to Ms Driscoll’s residence to retrieve the rat they saw in the basement.

Concerned for Ms Driscoll’s safety, despite Jonathon’s objections, Nancy enters the house. On re-entering the basement, Nancy and Jonathon find Ms Driscoll behaving every bit as oddly as the rat. For someone, not that it makes any sense, the elderly woman is consuming fertiliser.

Angry Will…

Putting away child-like things comes at a cost. After playing a game of D&D, because of his falling out with Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) and Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), Will wrecks the ‘Castle Byers’ treehouse.

At the Mall…

Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Robin (Maya Hawke) attempt to locate the Russian agents at the mall. When a deliveryman with an emblem of his work clothing sparks a thought, Robin figures out the clues to decoding the message. Subsequently, they believe something will occur at the mall that very evening.

From a vantage point on the roof, at the specified time, the trio observes heavily armed Russian men bring a shipment into the mall.

Missing the Date…

Jim Hopper (David Harbour), even though he clearly specified it wasn’t a date when he asked Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) out on a date, is annoyed she missed the date because she was conducting a science experiment with Mr Clarke (Randy Havens).

Joyce eventually talks Jim into accompanying her to the Hawkings Lab. As Jim investigates the building, the police chief is attacked by an unknown man. From his general appearance, he looks like one of the men we saw in the opening sequence to the third season premiere episode.
