Heather’s Parents are in Serious Trouble…
The fourth episode of Stranger Things’ third season picks up immediately after where the previous episode left off. Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery) and Heather (Francesca Reale) take her parents to the mill so that the entity can take possession of their bodies.
Did you see how that creature attached itself to their mouths? The creature looked like it was force-feeding them some kind of biological substance.
At the Newspaper…
Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) contract the police to help with Ms Driscoll. Where does Ms Driscoll have to get back to? She constantly talks about going back but does not specify where she needs to get back to. Because they disobeyed orders, the newspaper editor-in-chief fires them.
The newspaper editor, Heather’s father, does not look at all well. While Nancy suggests to Jonathon the editor looks like he could have been taking drugs of some description, demonic possession is significantly worse.
Despite being fired from the newspaper, Nancy remains curious as to what is happening with Ms Driscoll. Even though she does not have all the facts, the budding journalist knows there is something happening in her small town that should be covered by the newspaper.
Later, using the name Nancy Driscoll, Nancy talks her way into visiting Ms Driscoll at the hospital. At the hospital, Ms Driscoll transforms into a similar creature to that which we see with Billy at the pool’s sauna. The transformation is horrifying.
In the previous episode we saw Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) telling his friends, Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) and Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), “He’s back!” Will could only have been talking about the entity that they believed was trapped in the Upside-Down. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) closed the gate on the Upside-Down in the second season finale episode ‘Chapter Nine: The Gate.’
While neither Eleven nor Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) wants anything to do with the boys when Mike tries to contact them, the girls realise something serious is going down when Will places a landline call to the house.
Even though Eleven closed the gate on the Upside-Down at Hawkings Lab, Will adamantly believes something of that other world remains in the real world. Consequently, it has found itself a new host in the shape of Billy. This is what Elven fears.
Despite their personal issues, the five reunite to set a trap for Billy. While the five trap Billy in the pool’s sauna, he manages to find the strength required to break free.
As Billy losses control, the five are in danger. When Billy gets out of the sauna, Eleven fights Billy before he can attack her friends. Even though Eleven comes close to death, with Will’s help, she manages to defend her friends. She uses the strength of her mind to throw Billy throw a wall.
When Billy returns to the mill, he informs Heather that Eleven is on to him. As the camera pans away from the two possessed individuals, we find other townspeople possessed.
The Man with the Motorcycle Helmet…
Police Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) listens to Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) as she tries to describe the man she saw leave the Hawkings Lab on his motorcycle. Once Joyce tells Jim the vehicle the attacker left on was not a car but a motorcycle, the police chief suddenly realises he saw the attacker at the mayor’s office. The attacker works for Mayor Larry Kline (Cary Elwes).
With more than a little pressure, Jim forces the mayor to tell him about his attacker. He works for the owners of the new mall, Starcourt. The owners of the mall want to aggressively expand more into other parts of the town.
After carefully reviewing the areas in which the mall owners want to expand their business interests to, Joyce recognises some of the locations are near to her home and store. This presents Joyce with an explanation for not only the power outage but also why the magnets were demagnetised.
As Jim and Joyce begin to expand their exploration to other buildings in and around town, the mayor calls in help to stop them.
The Trio Becomes a Quartet…
At the mall, Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Robin (Maya Hawke) find themselves in need of assistance from someone that can fit into a seriously tiny space. Enter Erica Sinclair (Priah Ferguson). Erica, Lucas’s little sister, is enlisted to navigate the narrow air ducts leading from Scoops Ahoy to the storage room. When all four members of the quartet finally gain access to the storage room, in the boxes, they discover a strange bio-fluorescent green fluid.
When the storage room suddenly moves, we see the quartet is not in a room as much as an elevator. It is descending deep beneath the mall.
