Are you as excited to see Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) return to Suits as we are? ‘If the Shoe Fits’ sees the much-anticipated return of Mike to the series after he and his wife, Rachel (Meghan Markle), relocated to Seattle.
Adams’ departure from Suits came when Markle retired from the entertainment industry. The now-former actress was preparing to marry into the British Royal Family.
Why did Mike leave?
Instead of breaking up the on-screen couple, Suits series creator Aaron Korsh thought it best to write both Mike and Rachel out of the series together. If Korsh had not have written Adams out of the series, it would have meant a short-lived marriage for Mike and Rachel.
One Last Time…
“Anything that could get us disbarred or put in prison is off-limits,” Mike tells Harvey. Because the New York State Bar’s Special Master, Faye Richardson (Denise Crosby) is looking over everyone’s shoulder, Harvey must tread carefully.
While Harvey has extensive experience lawyering the old-fashioned way, Mike has the advantage of possessing an eidetic memory which enables him to recall anything he has read. It’s the main reason Harvey hires Mike in the series premiere. Despite this point, during the second season, Mike’s ‘superpower’ took a back seat to him being the guy that cheated/lied about getting into Harvard Law.
As the series progresses from season to season, the focus on Mike’s ability to recall information decreases. Back when the New York law firm merged with one from the British Isles, British lawyer Edward Darby (Conleth Hill) neutralised Mike’s ability to use his memory skills because he made use of unwritten laws. That hasn’t happened again in the series, but there is nothing to stop Harvey from using a similar tactic in the coming episode.
The next episode of Suits’ final season, ‘If the Shoe Fits’ Wed, 14 August 2019 at 8:00 PM on the USA Network. Please comment, share and like.
