“A request was made to the U.S. Navy to minimize the visibility of USS John S. McCain, however, all ships remained in their normal configuration during the President’s visit,” according to a statement from Rear Adm. Charlie Brown, Chief of Navy Information, released from the Pentagon.
The official press release from the Pentagon did not say who made the initial request.
While the USS John S. McCain is docked for repairs in Japan, the Pentagon did say that none of the active sailors were dis-invited from hearing the president speak.
The ship itself is named after John McCain’s father and grandfather who were both decorated admirals.
Deceased Senator John McCain was a prisoner of war in Vietnam.
