Kaepernick’s Lawyer Mark Geragos Says Jay Z Pulled a “Cold-Blooded” Move

It appears that the backlash over Jay Z’s new Roc Nation partnership with the NFL has not gone away as of yet.

According to BBC, the latest critic of the Hard Knock Life rapper’s business etiquette is Mark Geragos (pictured left). Geragos is the high-powered entertainment attorney who recently represented Colin Kaepernick, 31, when he won his collusion case with the NFL.

Geragos has also successfully represented other celebrities in a number of criminal and civil cases, including the late Michael Jackson. In a recent interview with ABC News, Geragos, 61, gave his take on what Jay Z, 49, called his newest “actionable item.”

Over the phone on Monday (August 19), Geragos told an ABC News correspondent that he believes the deal, which Jay Z cut with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, was a “cold-blooded” move.

“This deal between Jay-Z and the NFL crosses the intellectual picket line. I can confirm to you that the deal was already done prior to any conversation that [Kaepernick] had with Jay-Z and he certainly didn’t have any conversations with the NFL,” said Geragos.

Geragos did not confirm to ABC News that the previous conversation his client had with Jay Z prior to closing his deal with Goodell was related to this current business matter. It is plausible to surmise that Kaepernick and Jay Z spoke at some point in the distant past.

Jay Z was once a visible and vocal supporter of the banished 49ers quarterback during the activist campaign, which ultimately led to his removal from the NFL. The Roc Nation co-founder even performed a song in Kaepernick’s honor on Saturday Night Live.

However, Kaepernick is still bound by the terms of his settlement agreement with the NFL. One of the terms prevents the former NFC Champion from speaking directly on any of his legal matters related to the NFL.

In the invite-only August 14 press conference Goodell and Jay Z held to promote the rapper’s “actionable item,” the Grammy-winning performer stated that he had a conversation with Kaepernick just ahead of his NFL deal’s finalization.

But Nessa Diab, Kaepernick’s girlfriend, stated in a social media post that no such conversation between her man and Jay Z occurred prior to the announcement of his “actionable item,” which he stated replaces taking a knee at NFL games.

“COLIN never spoke to Jay-Z and NFL ahead of that deal being done. They NEVER included him in any discussion,” Diab tweeted on August 14.

Nessa Diab is a television and radio personality based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has been dating Kaepernick since July 2015.

If what Geragos and Diab have said is true, the only “actionable item” Jay Z has successfully delivered on so far is a proclamation of moral bankruptcy. Business is a meritocracy and lying is always an ill-advised thing to do in the corporate world.
