On March 31, television host and producer Nick Cannon (pictured center) debuted the trailer for his upcoming film project, which was originally started by the late Nipsey Hussle (pictured left).

A year after Hussle’s death, Cannon has carried the torch for the slain rapper’s commemorative documentary about Alfredo “Dr. Sebi” Bowman (pictured right). Born in the Central American nation of Honduras, Dr. Sebi was a renowned nutritionist and botanical healer. His Afrocentric dietary recommendations saved lives and prevented black people from relying on harmful prescription medicines to be healthy.

For years prior to his mysterious 2016 death, Dr. Sebi was harassed by judicial systems in the United States and Honduras. Prosecutors in New York state criminally charged him with practicing medicine without a license. However, their case collapsed and Dr. Sebi was acquitted. After being found not guilty in criminal court, a civil suit was lodged at Dr. Sebi. This case resulted in a permanent U.S. shutdown of his botanical healing business.

Before his death, Dr. Sebi was charged but never convicted of a financially-related crime in Honduras. He died of pneumonia in police custody while being transferred to a medical facility. Prior to his 2019 execution-style homicide, Nipsey Hussle sought to pay tribute to Dr. Sebi by producing a documentary about the famed nutritionist. However, like a close brother, Cannon stepped in and vowed to complete the project.

“Where you left off, we gonna carry one! It’s a MARATHON, so I’m picking up the baton! Because they can’t kill us all. Now, your message is my message! Your work is my work! I know you still rocking with us and your voice will never be silenced because to be absent from the body is to be present with the Most High!” Cannon said, according to RevoltTV.

According to BET, Cannon’s Dr. Sebi film is titled “Strong Enemies: The Untold Case of Dr. Sebi.” This film will include commentary from rapper/actor Common, hip-hop pioneer Professor Griff, renowned psychologist Dr. Umar Johnson, the honorable Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, and many others.

The film’s release date has not yet been revealed, BET reports.
