On Friday, January 17, Gulf Coast Records artists will perform live during a live music video filming at The Mint. in Los Angeles, California. The doors open at 8:00 p.m. with the showcase show and taping beginning at 8:30 p.m.
The Proven Ones
The Proven Ones have a combined total of 100 years of experience performing. The band roster includes Kid Ramos (guitar), Brian Templeton (lead vocals), Anthony Geraci (keyboards), Willie J. Campbell (bass), and Jimi Bott (drums).
Their resume is highlighted by their 2019 premiere platter, Wild Again (Roseleaf) which scored them a Blues Music Award Nomination from the well-known Blues Foundation for Best Contemporary Blues Recording. Bott, Campbell, and Geraci were also nominated for their work on their respective instruments. The group has collectively appeared on hundreds of different recordings. They individually have shared the stage with numerous music blues artists and have performed live at different music around the world.
Campbell had this to say in a recent email: “You Ain’t Done [their upcoming album] is setting a new standard for us as a band. Mike Zito and Guy Hale of Gulf Coast Records said, ‘Let’s make a record that blows peoples minds.’ Everyone knows us individually as blues artists who have played/ recorded some great blues records and played with the most prolific blues artists of the day.”
He added: “This is the first time all of us are in a band where we have creative liberty. And man, do we take our liberties. This record rocks. It comes at you from all directions. We take no prisoners with all original music. It’s a culmination of over 300 years of collective experience.”
Campbell stated: “I hope you are ready for The Proven Ones, because we are ready to bring it to you at the Mint in Los Angeles. Come on down Friday January 17. We will rock your world.”
“The six-string siren”, Diana Rein, is a singer/songwriter and guitarist. Rein was born in Romania but grew up in Chicago, Illinois. As Daiana Campeanu she also appeared alongside Macaulay Culkin in the films “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2 – Lost In New York.” She was cast as his sister Sondra McCallister.
Currently based in Temecula, California, she began her music career playing acoustic rhythm guitar in the fabled Windy City. Her rockin’ resume also includes her premiere platter The Back Room. It hit the record racks in 2007. Last August Rein followed up the release of her newest GCR album Queen Of My Castle with a sold-out concert at The Historic Merc located Temecula.
In a recent email Rein commented on this event:
“In 2019 I was very thrilled to be a part of a Gulf Coast Records Revue at the Las Vegas Blues Bender and Knuckleheads Saloon in Kansas City. Now we get to do one in Los Angeles at The Mint. One thing I know for sure is that the music will be smokin’ and it will be a full-on party with some major guitar slingin’!”
Singer/songwriter/arranger and musician Jimmy Carpenter’s most recent release is his fourth studio LP Soul Doctor. It was released on the GCR label in September. The sax player started his music career 35 years ago.
His accomplishments include being nominated by The Blues Foundation for a 2020 Blues Music Award in the category “Best Instrumentalist – Horn.” He fronts his own band nad performs with assorted other acts as well. Carpenter is also the Musical Director for the Big Blues Bender as well as the leader of the Bender Brass, the Bender’s House Band.
Texas-based guitarist and producer Mike Zito is said by some to be “a non-stop touring machine.” At present, he is performing on his big “Rock N Roll World Tour.” Zito currently plays with a big band.
Zito’s credits also include garnering the 2019 Independent Blues Awards in three categories: “Best Producer,” “Best Blues Rock Song,” and “Best Blues Rock CD.” As co-owner of Gulf Coast Records, Zito is regularly working as a producer as well.
Gulf Coast Records
Although Gulf Coast Records is a fairly new record label, some believe it to be a leader on the Americana/Blues music scene. The label was founded by Zito and Guy Hale.
Rein said: “Since coming on board with Gulf Coast Records in 2019, I have been shouting from the rooftops about just how happy I am to be involved with such a wonderful label. GCR is FOR the artist and all about championing quality music.”
Carpenter added: “I love seeing my name on the Gulf Coast Records roster, alongside these fine musicians that I respect and admire.”
When asked about this event, he responded: “This will be a seriously great night of music, and I can’t wait to hang and play with The Proven Ones, Diana Rein, and of course, my old friend, Mike Zito. And I’m celebrating my 5th BMA nomination, so it will be an even more special night!”
