New Blues Festival VIII is coming!
Get ready for what people are calling the one and only “year-ending Blues Festival in Southern California.” Presented in partnership with the Long Beach Blues Society, this event will take place on Saturday, November 13, at the popular Shoreline Aquatic Park, at 200 Aquarium Way, in Long Beach, California.
Activities and Events
There will be several different activities and events at this family-friendly festival. There will not only be two large, live music stages but food for sale and a vendor village as well.
Artists and Entertainers
This year the festival features a line-up of several entertainers. They include R&B artist and Gulf Coast Records recording artist Tito Jackson, award-winning blues singer Sugar Ray Rayford, Los Angeles-based blues guitarist Laurie Morvan, and the recently-formed group Bill Grisolia & the New Blues All-Stars.
Additional acts include New Orleans blues guitarist Lester Lands, multi-genre singer and musician Corday, blues-rock threesome The Disciplez, native and She Wears Black featuring local blues songstress Shy But Fly, Tex-Mex blues band Redd House, surfboard shaper and musician Dano Forte, Lester Lands’ Gospel Brunch, and blues harpist TJ Norton & The Suitcase. The master of ceremonies for this year’s festival is blues deejay, Ann The Raven, host of the Sunday night KCSN 88.5/Cal State Northridge radio show “Ann The Raven’s Blues” from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
A History-Making Show
In a recent electronic missive festival promoter and curator, Bill Grisolia spoke of the upcoming event. He said: “This is the eighth New Blues Festival, the sixth in Long Beach, and the first time the New Blues Festival will be held in the prime Entertainment Destination of Shoreline Aquatic Park, which is a peninsula of land surrounded on three sides by water.”
He added: “One side of the Peninsula is located in the Pacific Channel, which leads to the Los Angeles River tributary. The other side Is Rainbow Harbor, which includes both working fishing and charter boats as well as all types of pleasure crafts. Across from the tip of the Peninsula is the tip of Shoreline Village, with its iconic Lighthouse Restaurant.”
Grisolia noted: “Shops and restaurants highlight the Shoreline Village experience including the original Yard House Restaurant. Next to the park is the Aquarium of the Pacific, with its recent $53 million Pacific Visions addition. The Aquarium is known throughout Southern California for its Rescue and Rehabilitation efforts and for its work with school children from across the Los Angeles and Orange County areas.”
He concluded: “The Festival will seek to add a kick-off event on Friday, November 12 to be arranged perhaps with a host hotel.” Grisolia not only fronts the New Blues Festivals All-Stars, but he is also the lead singer and keyboardist for the Long Beach-based band, New Blues Revolution.
